It’s amazing how one simple idea can lead to changes that can affect thousands of people for the better. EMHS’ Healthier Hospital Food initiative is doing just that by leveraging the reach of our food service programs to create healthier food options for the patients, staff, and community members at 12 hospital sites.
Collectively, our food service programs purchase $6 million’ worth of food annually and produce two million meals! Now we are connecting all of our food service sites to the same software which will allow them all to share menus, conduct nutrient analysis of recipes, and increase inventory and ordering efficiencies. We are training all employees in the use of this software and have created a hospital food service team and a home office-based food service coordinator to provide administrative oversight of the program. The Healthier Hospital Food initiative is projected to reach about 5,000 people.
